Songs like "Letting Someone Go," written about the unexpected loss of his mother, and "Sweet DeaAnn," also written about his mother, amaze me. They feel like he took all his heart and poured it out, exposing that the same love and hurt is in every human heart.
Songs like "Revival" reminds me to search for an altar in the world -- to always be on the lookout for the holy, even in the most unholy of places, like gathering around a backyard bonfire with outlaw friends and Jim Beam. Because I don't know about y'all, but I've had a blast finding Jesus in all the places that religious people told me not to search for Him.
Songs like "Heading South" and "From Austin" speak to the restlessness in my heart that leads me on amazing adventures, but it could lead to my destruction, if left untamed.
Songs like "Something in the Orange," "Dawns," and "I Remember Everything" sit with the listener when they are hurt and bitter from loving someone who stopped loving them.

Austin purchased tickets for his Quittin' Time Tour soon after they went on sale last September. He texted me when he bought them, because he couldn't wait until we got home to surprise me, and because he was irritated to find that the good seats went lightning fast. Although there was a time when "Zach Bryan" was not a household name, he is a country music sensation these days. And we got the best tickets we could get.
I had been looking forward to the concert for six months, and I nearly fainted when he walked on stage at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex last night. The energy was electric. We went crazy for the boy from Oklahoma. The same smile was on all of our faces. The same anticipation was in all of our hearts. And our guy did not disappoint.
